What Is a Linear Guideway?
A linear guideway is a precision rolling-element bearing system that provides smooth, low-friction linear motion along a profiled rail. It consists of a rail (guide) and a carriage (block) with recirculating balls or rollers, enabling high-load capacity, rigidity, and positioning accuracy in machine tool axes.

Ball-Bearing Guideways
HJG-DA and HJG-DB: four rows of balls on a circular arc, 45° contact, equal load in four directions, preload H0–H3.
Roller Guideways
HJG-DZ uses rollers. The catalog describes high contact rigidity, vibration absorption, and high load capacity, with preload H1–H3.
Miniature Guideways
HJG-DA starts at 15 mm in the published range. Block forms are high flange, low flange, and rectangle, plus the extended block (suffix L).
Sliding Guideways
HJG-K linear bearing blocks (crawler, roll, dovetail) are in the same catalog, for frequent start-stop motion on a prepared bed way.
Specialized Guideways
Low noise on HJG-DA and HJG-DB comes from the resin return path. HJG-DZ stores grease in the roller chain. There is no separate wide, silent, or crossed-roller series in this catalog.
Corrosion-Resistant Options
HJG-J rolling splines in the same catalog transmit torque while the sleeve travels: three teeth at 120° and six rows of balls. Dimensions are in the catalog PDF.

Low Friction
The HJG-D four-row circular-arc design is described in the catalog as having lower differential slide and fine self-adjustment, with four-row circular grooves increasing the contact area against a two-row design. Rolling contact reduces drive force and heat compared with a sliding way.
High Rigidity
HJG-DA and HJG-DB share load at 45°. HJG-DZ uses rollers. Ball-guide preload is H0–H3; roller preload is H1–H3.
Positioning Accuracy
Rails and blocks are ground on purpose-built machines and checked with laser measuring means. In the catalog, motion accuracy (running parallelism) is 2 µm in grade 1 and 28 µm in grade 6 for rail length up to 500 mm, widening with rail length.

Rated life is calculated from the catalog formula — L = 50 × (C / Pc)³ km for ball guides and L = 100 × (C / Pc)^(10/3) km for roller guides, with the catalog temperature, contact, accuracy, load and hardness coefficients. End seals and scrapers keep dust out; HJG-DZ stores grease in the roller keeper chain.

Common technical questions about linear guideway selection and usage
The catalog selects preload by impact, vibration and accuracy:
- H0 micro — non-impact load, several guides in juxtaposition; welding machines, packing machines, material supply devices.
- H1 light — load direction fixed with impact and small vibration, auxiliary guide, or a high-precision non-reference guide.
- H2 medium — overhanging or subversion load, only one block, or a light-load high-precision reference guide; robots, CNC, EDM, wire-cut, precision worktables.
- H3 heavy — high rigidity with impact and heavy vibration, machines taking strong cutting force.
HJG-DZ roller guides use H1, H2, or H3. Send the axis duty and we will confirm the class.
The catalog equips every HJG-D guide for lubrication and dust protection:
- Oil cup and flow path -- Standard on HJG-DA, HJG-DB and HJG-DZ, feeding the rolling-element path.
- HJG-DZ keeper chain -- Grease is stored inside the roller keeper chain, so an oil film forms between the rollers and the chain.
- End seals and scrapers -- Sealed end caps and scrapers keep dust and impurities out of the raceway.
- Side lubrication -- Where side lubrication is needed, it must be stated on the order (noted in the HJG-DZ tables).
The catalog does not list a separate self-lubricator unit for the HJG-D guides. Always keep end seals and scrapers intact — contamination is a main cause of premature guideway failure.
Yes. The catalog covers rail lengths up to the 3,500–4,000 mm bracket, and describes extension guides used in pairs. Key points:
- Rail length -- Set by the HJG-D tables; the accuracy tables run from 500 mm to 3,500–4,000 mm in brackets.
- Extension guides -- When extension guides are used in pairs, the catalog asks that their serial numbers be checked (for example A1J, A2J, A3J ...).
- Reference guide -- The guide with the letter "J" at the end of its number is the reference guide; pair numbers must be observed.
- End distance G -- Minimum, maximum and recommended G values are listed per size for DA15 to DA85 and for DB45 and DB55.

Cage creep is a drift of the retainer in some non-recirculating ways. HJG-DA, HJG-DB and HJG-DZ recirculate the rolling elements, so that form of cage creep does not apply. The catalog does not list a separate crossed-roller cage series.
What the catalog does specify for long stroke is rail length and end distance G, and for the block the accuracy grade, preload class and block form. State the stroke, the mounting layout and the load direction, and we will quote the recirculating HJG-D guide that fits.
